After a day of exploring the natural wonders of Bar Harbor, you’re sure to work up an appetite. Luckily, this charming coastal town is home to a vibrant culinary scene, where you can indulge in the freshest seafood and sample local delicacies. From traditional lobster shacks to upscale waterfront restaurants, Bar Harbor has something to satisfy every palate.

Seafood, Seafood, Seafood!

One of the must-try dishes in Bar Harbor is, of course, lobster. Whether you prefer it steamed, grilled, or served in a roll, you’ll find plenty of options to satisfy your lobster cravings. Be sure to visit a local lobster pound, where you can enjoy a feast of fresh lobster, clams, and other seafood delicacies.

You will also find plenty of fresh mussels, scallops, and haddock. These delicious treats can be found on the menus of many local restaurants, where they are prepared with care and served with a side of stunning waterfront views.

We had one of the best meals on our trip at Galyn’s in downtown Bar Harbor, pictured above.  The cocktails were unbelievably good!  Combinations you’d never think of!  I had the Maine Waters, and Jay had the Woodford’s Mistress. For dinner, I had the haddock special with wild rice, and Jay had the Seafood Fettuccine– both amazing!  For desert we had New England Indian Pudding which was very interesting.

For those looking for something other than seafood, Bar Harbor also offers a range of dining options, including Italian, Mexican, and Asian cuisine. There’s truly something for everyone, making Bar Harbor a great destination for food lovers.

Be sure to finish with a visit to one of the many ice cream parlors or bakeries in town. From homemade waffle cones to mouthwatering pastries, these sweet treats are the perfect way to end a day of exploration.

Transportation

It is best to have a car in Bar Harbor in my opinion, especially to drive around Acadia.  There is a bus available at the park, but I prefer to stop and go on our own schedule rather than waiting around on the bus.  There is parking in the downtown area that is reasonably priced.

There are other ways to get around if you don’t have a car including buses, trolleys and ferries. There is an Island Explorer Shuttle that is free ($5 if entering Acadia) that will take you around to see the sights in Bar Harbor including into Acadia National Park.

Taxis and tours are options as well.
