New York City is a vibrant and bustling metropolis with numerous must-see attractions. From iconic landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and Times Square to world-class museums and Broadway shows, there is something for everyone in this city that never sleeps. 

New York City is unquestionably a city rich in cultural diversity. With over 8 million residents from all corners of the globe, the city is a melting pot of cultures, languages, and cuisines. There are many diverse neighborhoods to explore like Chinatown, Little Italy, and Harlem, each offering its own unique flavor and charm. This cultural diversity is also reflected in the city’s art scene, with countless galleries showcasing works from both established and emerging artists.

The city skyline is adorned with iconic skyscrapers including the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, and the Chrysler Building. In my opinion, no trip to New York City is complete with seeing a Broadway show (or 2 or 3!). Broadway is a renowned theater district located in the heart of New York City. It is home to some of the world’s most renowned shows, attracting millions of theater-goers from around the world. 

With its dazzling lights, grand theaters, and talented performers, Broadway offers a unique and unforgettable experience. The district showcases a wide range of productions, including musicals, plays, and dance performances. From long-running classics like “The Phantom of the Opera” to newly acclaimed shows like “Hamilton,” Broadway offers something for everyone.

The Statue of Liberty, located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, is a colossal copper statue designed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi. It was a gift from the people of France to the United States and represents freedom and democracy. Standing at 305 feet tall, it is a symbol of hope and welcomes immigrants arriving in the country.

Located nearby, Ellis Island served as the main immigration station from 1892 to 1954. Today, it is a museum that tells the story of over 12 million immigrants who passed through its doors seeking a better life in America. Other Parks

Bryant Park, located in Midtown Manhattan, offers a serene escape from the bustling city, with its beautifully manicured gardens and peaceful atmosphere. You can enjoy a walk around the park’s tree-lined paths, grab a coffee and a snack, or relax on one of the many benches. 

Battery Park is situated at the southern tip of Manhattan. This waterfront park offers stunning views of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It is a perfect spot for a picnic or a leisurely stroll along the Hudson River. 

The High Line in Chelsea is a unique elevated park that was created on a former railway line. It features beautifully landscaped gardens, art installations, and spectacular views of the city skyline. 

Brooklyn Bridge Park is a picturesque waterfront park offering stunning views of the Manhattan skyline and the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. You can enjoy walking and biking paths, picnic areas, sports fields, and playgrounds. There are also several piers with great spots for fishing and kayaking.

Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village is a vibrant hub for both locals and tourists. It is known for its iconic arch and lively atmosphere, often with street performers and musicians.

New York City is home to some of the best museums in the world, offering a wide range of art, history, and cultural experiences. 

Metropolitan Museum of Art

One of the most renowned museums in the city is the Metropolitan Museum of Art, commonly known as the Met. With its vast collection spanning over 5,000 years of human history, the Met is a must-visit for art enthusiasts. From ancient Egyptian artifacts to European masterpieces, the museum offers a rich and diverse display of artistic treasures.

Museum of Modern Art

The Museum of Modern Art, or MoMA is one of the leading institutions dedicated to contemporary art. Where To Stay

We tend to gravitate toward Times Square when we choose where to stay in New York City because we like the liveliness of the area, and we love being near the theaters on Broadway. There are, however, so many other areas to choose from, and the subway makes it easy to get to any area you to want to get to quickly.

The Upper West Side is known for its charming brownstones and its proximity to Central Park. This neighborhood offers a mix of residential and commercial areas, with a wide range of dining and entertainment options.

Greenwich Village is known for its bohemian atmosphere and artistic vibe. This neighborhood is home to numerous cafes, boutiques, and art galleries, making it a favorite among artists and creatives. Greenwich Village also boasts beautiful tree-lined streets and historic townhouses, adding to its charm.

The Upper East Side is known for its luxurious apartment buildings, high-end shopping destinations, and world-class museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Upper East Side offers a quieter and more sophisticated atmosphere compared to other parts of Manhattan.

Tribeca is another neighborhood worth considering. This area is known for its trendy restaurants, art galleries, and converted warehouses. Tribeca also offers a mix of residential and commercial spaces, making it an ideal choice for those looking for a vibrant and diverse neighborhood.

Brooklyn has seen a surge in popularity in recent years. If you prefer a more laid-back vibe with more space and amazing views of the Manhattan skyline you might want to try Brooklyn.

When it comes to good restaurants in New York City there are far too many to name, but here are a few of the best that should be on your list to try.

Katz’s Delicatessen is famous for its pastrami sandwiches and classic Jewish deli fare. Located on the Lower East Side, Katz’ old-world charm and delicious food has been around since 1888.

Grand Central Oyster Bar is located in the historic Grand Central Terminal and has been serving fresh oysters and other seafood delicacies since 1913. With its vaulted ceilings and tiled archways and delicious food, is a true dining experience.

If you love soul food head to Sylvia’s Restaurant in Harlem. Since 1962, Sylvia’s has been serving up Southern comfort food like fried chicken, collard greens, and cornbread. This family-owned establishment is known for its warm hospitality and mouthwatering dishes, a beloved institution in the heart of Harlem.

Junior’s Restaurant is a New York City institution known for its cheesecake. With locations in Times Square and Brooklyn, Junior’s has been baking their famous cheesecakes since 1950. People from all over the world come to indulge in the creamy goodness of Junior’s cheesecake, making it a must-visit for any dessert lover in the city.

Minetta Tavern is a legendary steakhouse in Greenwich Village that has been serving mouthwatering cuts of meat since the 1930s. With its old-world charm and impeccable service, it is a must if you love steak.

The Odeon is a French bistro located in Tribeca known for its classic brasserie fare and lively atmosphere, The Odeon has been a favorite among locals and celebrities alike for over three decades.

For a classic American burger joint try PJ Clarke’s. This historic saloon has been around since 1884 and is famous for its juicy burgers and extensive whiskey selection. 

Lombardi’s holds the title of being America’s first pizzeria. Located in Little Italy, this century-old establishment serves delicious thin-crust pizzas topped with fresh ingredients that keep customers continuously coming back for more.

John’s Pizzeria is another New York City must when it comes to pizza. With multiple locations across the city, John’s is known for its coal-fired brick oven pizzas that have a perfectly charred crust and a delightful blend of flavors.

Ellen’s Stardust Diner is a unique dining experience that combines great food with live entertainment. Located in the heart of Times Square, this retro-themed diner is famous for its singing waitstaff. The servers, who are aspiring Broadway performers, belt out show tunes while serving delicious American comfort food.

While not a restaurant, Magnolia Bakery is one of my favorites, so I have to include it. Their cupcakes and other baked goods are delectable! They offer a wide variety of flavors, from classic vanilla to red velvet (my favorite!) and so much more.

Grand Central Terminal

New York City is known for its bustling streets and heavy traffic, but there are several efficient ways to get around the city quickly.

One of the best is the subway system. With numerous lines and stations throughout the city, the subway provides easy access to the various neighborhoods and attractions. You can now pay with Apple Pay by tapping your phone each time you enter the station. So quick and easy!

There are taxis and ride-sharing services like Uber or Lyft which offer convenience and flexibility, allowing you to travel directly to your desired destination. There is also an extensive bus network that is reliable and covers the entire city.

For short distances or leisurely sightseeing, walking is a great way to explore the city and take in its vibrant atmosphere. I recommend walking as much as possible. I think it is the best way to really see the city!
